Shanghai, March 26 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Hyundai had its 100,000th car of this year rolling off the production line this morning. The "100,000th Yuedong (Elantra)" means that the joint venture has made 100,000 cars in less than three months this year.

Mid-size sedans have been the heavyweight products of Beijing Hyundai, with its Elantra once acclaimed as "the king of family sedan." Built upon the successful Elantra, the Yuedong model has attracted more buyers with its roomy space, ample configurations, superb performance and splendid look. Since April 2008, the monthly sales of Yuedong have exceeded 10,000 units and seen rapid growth to become a "star" model of the mid-size car segment.

The glamour of Yuedong has not overshadowed the sales performance of its predecessor Elantra. The Elantra+Yuedong "dream team" became the top seller of China's 2008 mid-class cars, and this month the sales are likely to top 30,000 units to capture 13% market share.

Beijing Hyundai sold 32,008 vehicles (including 24,664 units of Elantra+Yuedong) in February, up 72.3% from a year earlier, keeping its No. 4 spot among China's top 10 best-selling automakers and increasing its overall market-share to 7.1%. The company expects its first quarter sales this year to grow by 40% year on year.

The joint venture's major models Elantra/Yuedong and Accent with engines below 1.6L are reaping the benefits of the Chinese government's small-car tax cuts and other stimulus measures. Hyundai Motor aims to sell at least 360,000 vehicles in the Chinese market in 2009, a 23% rise from last year.
