Shanghai auto show, a haven of global automakers?

Though faced with financial crisis, global auto giants are still enthusiastic on joining this year's Shanghai auto show, creating a record in the history both with the exhibition volume and number of exhibitors, said Wang Xia, secretary general of the China Chamber of International Commerce Automotive Chamber on April 7 in "Auto Shanghai 2009" press conference.

More than 1,500 auto makers and spare parts manufacturers from 25 countries and regions promised to participate in the biennial auto show this year, thirteen cars will make their global debut, and the latest technologies and strategic vehicles will be displayed by global automakers at the show, according to the organizers Tuesday.

The American big 3, ailing and cash-strapped, will not miss the Shanghai auto show. Toyota, which surpassed General Motors to become the world No.1 automaker in 2008, will bring 50 exhibiting cars, 8 new cars and 5 concept cars, to be covering 4500 square metres at the show.

"The high enthusiasm of international car makers reflects their confidence toward China's auto industry as well as their expectations of future market potential," said Wang Xia.

Although some global automakers withdraw some world auto shows to save money, they will concentrate on one or two important auto shows they believe. The 2009 Shanghai auto show, to be held from April 20 to April 28, then becomes the first choice of global auto giants which are attracted by China's great market potential and stable economic development.
