Hyundai Motor Co said its car sales fell 1.8 pct year-on-year to 229,692 units in March, after vehicle model reallocations at domestic plants led to production disruptions and thus affected exports.

The nation's largest car maker sold 54,078 units last month in the domestic market, up 5.1 pct from a year earlier, while exports declined 3.7 pct to 175,614 units.

However, March sales volume rose 22.7 pct from February when sales were hit by fewer working days due to the Lunar New Year holidays and weak seasonal demand.

In the first three months, car sales totaled 612,047 units, down 1.4 pct from a year earlier.
