According to OICA, Romania's auto production in 2005 ranked 32 over the world, and 13 among the European countries (not including Russia and Turkey).

The production value of Romania's auto industry was about $ 1,781,000,000 in 2004, which accounted for 6.2% of the total industry production value, and 2.9% of the national GDP. Domestic production increased during the 2000-2005 period by 141 percent, auto production in 2005 achieved 198,400, with an increase of 59.4%, and 71617 units, compared to 2004.

Romania's Auto Sales in 2005

The number of cars registered in Romania is 195 cars per 1000 inhabitants in 2004, which represents a huge potential for growth. Foreign corporations play an important part in Romania auto industry; main automakers include Renault (Dacia) and Daewoo, and large amount of component manufacturers.

The Romanian automobile market is driven by passenger cars. Overall vehicle sales in the Romanian market increased in 2005, from 2004, showing an overall increase of approximately 42 percent, Vehicle sales are about 250,000 units for 2005. Sales of vehicles from domestic production account for more than half of total sales.

In 2004, production of auto parts and accessories (excluding tires) increased by 28 percent compared to 2003, while imports increased to 37 percent. Sales of components increased by 34 percent for exports and 26 percent for the internal market in 2005.
