INFORMATION ON NEW HUNGARIAN LEGISLATIONS OF MOTOR VEHICLES

1. The registration fees of the passenger cars, put into circulation in Hungary, were modified by the Hungarian Parliament in March 2004-05-21.
The registration fee is determined according to ten taxation brackets, defined upon the technical characteristics of the passenger cars, as well as according to their environmental classification.
According to environmental aspects the vehicles are put into one of 9 classes (N° 0-8), their higher code meaning better properties according to the construction features and pollutant emission requirements.
The law distinguishes vehicles with better and worse code than N°5. E.g., concerning petrol operated cars this corresponds to the criteria Euro-III. and Euro-II, respectively.

2. The Minister for Economy and Transport ordered the introduction of all EU Directives issues until end 2003, hitherto not applied in Hungary, concerning the air pollution of transport vehicles with his Decree N°34/2004, entering into vigour as of 1 May 2004.
After earlier introduction of former EU-Directives, this means the introduction of the Decrees 2002/51/EC and 2002/77/EC on air pollution of motorcycles, the 2003/76/EC and 80/2003/EC on air pollution of passenger cars.
