VW Malaysia expands dealership network

From Business Times| May 30 , 2007 10:54 BJT

VOLKSWAGEN Group Malaysia has expanded its dealership network and is confident of meeting its sales target of 700 car units this year despite the sluggish car market.

Its managing director, Axel Barth, said today that up to last week, the group had sold 223 car units this year.

Though satisfied with the sales figures, Barth said as a newcomer in the market, the company’s priority is the development of a dedicated network.

“Sales will come automatically once the network has been developed,” he said, adding that the German carmaker still sees potential for growth in Malaysia.

Volkswagen Malaysia today appointed Federal Auto Holdings Bhd and Goh Brothers Motor Sdn Bhd as official dealers.

Barth said Federal Auto has presence in Puchong, Selangor, and Alor Star, Kedah, with business and order-taking starting immediately.

Goh Brothers is the dealer for Penang mainland.

The latest appointment increased the number of Volkswagen dealership showrooms to 12 nationwide.

Barth said the company also expects to announce its partner for East Malaysia within this year despite facing difficulties in finding the right partner. — Bernama
