GM accounting snafu delays 2006 earnings results

From FREE PRESS BUSINESS | February 11 , 2007 13:27 BJT

General Motors Corp. reported on Friday that it continues to work through a financial reporting review and has not yet set a new date to announce its fourth-quarter and 2006 year-end earnings results.

GM originally was scheduled to report its earnings results on Jan. 30.

GM announced late last month it would delay the report while it restates its earnings from Jan. 1, 2002, through Sept. 30, 2006, primarily to fix tax accounting errors it recently discovered in financial statements filed before 2002. At that time, GM said it would provide further information on the progress of its financial reporting during the week of Feb. 5.

Chief Financial Officer Fritz Henderson said earlier that the company still anticipates filing its annual report with the federal government by its due date of March 1.
