GM preps Buick plug-in hybrid concept based on Chevy Volt for Guangzhou auto show
General Motors will unveil a plug-in hybrid concept car -- dubbed the
Buick Velite -- at the Guangzhou auto show later this month.
The vehicle is a variant of the Chevrolet Volt and will make its global
debut on November 18. GM said it will provide a template for
upcoming models being launched under the Buick Blue new energy vehicle
strategy.
The Velite is fitted with a powertrain which comprises GM's SIDI
gasoline engine, an electric drive and a lithium ion battery pack.
The Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center, GM's Shanghai-based
engineering partnership with SAIC Motor Corp., designed the concept.
A Reddit user recently spotted what appears to be a Buick-badged, second-generation Volt.
The Velite would be the second hybrid vehicle in Buick's Chinese lineup.
In August, GM China introduced a hybrid version of the Buick LaCrosse.
The automaker has said it plans to roll out additional hybrids under the Buick brand.
