Chery will produce 1.0T engines, planning annual capacity of 100,000 units

Gasgoo (Shanghai, November 4)—According to the “13th-five” plan, Chery will make strategic arrangements in platforms, newly launched models and key technologies, in which engines will be one of the most important points.

It’s learned that Chery will update its “1.0L engine” project to produce 1.0T turbo-supercharged engines with an annual capacity of 100,000 units, which are expected to be equipped in Chery’s small-size vehicles.

The project will have an overall investment of RMB 1.22b, in which new investment for construction is RMB 1.14b and others for flowing capital. It’s learned that the project aims to produce 50,000 units 1.0L naturally aspirated engines and 100,000 units 1.0L turbo-supercharged engines every year.

Currently, Chery’s 12 models, including Arrizo 5 and Tiggo 7, equip engines of 1.0L, 1.5L, 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L and 1.5T. The new 1.0T engines will promote Chery’s models transferring from small-displacement engines. In the future, small-size cars including Arrizo3, Tiggo 3, along with SUVs are expected to equip the engines. And their prices will be cut after being transferred engines.

Small-displacement engines are the trend of current industry. Currently, more than 9 self-independent auto companies are researching for will produce 1.0T engines. Chana’s 1.0T engines are successfully equipped in Alsvin V7 model, and SAIC Group also plans to produce 1.0T engines this year.

BAIC Group has announced the successful trial of its 1.0T engine, while Geely Auto has planned 1.0T engines’ production in last October. The two companies are expected to produce the engines in large volumes around the year 2017.
