The Chinese SUV market continues to be highly competitive, as recent statistics detailing sales in March. Domestic own brand SUVs continue to lead the market.

The top performing model of the month remains Great Wall Haval H6 (pictured above), one of the few own brand models to trump products from Sino-foreign joint ventures. In China, the Haval name has become a recognizable symbol in the SUV market. The Haval H6, which has been on the market since 2011, is scheduled for a revision this year.

Aside from the Haval H6, the top own brand SUV in the country is GAC’s Trumpchi GS4 (pictured above). The GS4 has constantly been ranking among the five top selling SUVs in China. Over 500,000 units have been sold in the model’s 22 months on market. The GS4 has set a record for the amount of time that a domestic SUV in the 10,000 RMB plus segment reached the 500,000 sales mark.

The Geely Yuanjing SUV (pictured above) is the product of the manufacturer’s recent brand restructuring strategy. The Yuanjing SUV has succeeded in selling over 10,000 units for five consecutive months, with over 90,000 units sold since its debut. The GS4 has been praised as the best valued SUV in the 80,000 RMB price range, being complemented for its combination of superior performance, comfort and accessories. The Yuanjing SUV is expected to continue to perform strongly in third- and fourth-tier cities.

Another key SUV model from Geely is the Boyue (pictured above). Cumulative orders of the Boyue have exceeded 200,000 units since its launch, with over 150,000 vehicles having already been delivered to consumers. However, the high demand for the SUV has led to supply issues, with production of various components being limited. Geely has previously announced plans to increase capacity to combat these issues.

The SAIC Roewe RX5 (pictured above), which has been touted as the world’s first Internet-connected SUV, has seen its sales continually increase since its release last July. Sales of the RX5 in July, which was its first month on market, were just under 10,000 units, before growing to 14,000 units in August and exceeding over 20,000 units in September. Monthly sales of the RX5 have averaged 15,000 units since its launch. Consumers have praised the RX5 for its technological advancements, with its Alibaba YunOS onboard system utilizing big data.

Since its market launch in August 2014, the Changan CS75 (pictured) has been performing very well. This was especially in 2015 when its sales growth increased dramatically and it ranked among the top three best selling domestic SUVs. Despite having been somewhat overshadowed by newer models, the CS75 still averages approximately 20,000 units per month.
