Shanghai (Gasgoo)- A hydrogen energy industrial park is to be built at Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone after Shanghai Jiaotong University and two state-owned companies--Shenergy Group and Lingang Group—entered into a strategic partnership on September 26.

Three parties are ambitious to co-build a hydrogen and fuel cell-related ecosystem that integrates hydrogen production & filling, core fuel cell stack, system integration, pilot operation and industrial capital businesses, said Lingang Group.

The yet-to-be-built industrial park is expected to draw roughly RMB10 billion worth of investment. Its completion will offer the whole country a reproducible business model available for widespread promotion in developing hydrogen industry.

With 15-year experience in R&D of fuel cells, Shanghai Jiaotong University has achieved breakthroughs in such areas as metal bipolar plate, high-efficiency membrane electrode assembly and high-density fuel cell stack, according to Lingang Group.

As the largest industrial park developer in Shanghai, Lingang Group undertakes an important role in the development of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Special Area. It is also a long-term partner of Shanghai Jiaotong University in promoting the combination of industries, universities, research institutions and application.

Founded in 1987, Shenergy Group was a state-owned limited liability company invested and supervised by the Shanghai Municipal SASAC. It has become a comprehensive energy enterprise group, covering power generation, natural gas, finance, energy service and trade, as well as many other fields.

Lin-gang Special Area was officially launched in August, 2019 as a newly added part of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. It is worth mentioning that Tesla is building its 50 billion yuan ($7 billion) Gigafactory 3 there, where the U.S. EV startup has produced a complete Model 3 body-in-white and full production is scheduled to start on October 14, according to a report citing Tesla officials and Chinese officials.
