Zetsche says Chrysler's financial arm also could be sold, too

DaimlerChrysler AG could get rid of Chrysler Financial if the German-based company decides to sell or spin-off the Chrysler Group, company Chairman Dieter Zetsche said today.

"We have the option to do the same with the financial arm, or not," Zetsche said at the Merrill Lynch Global Automotive Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

Zetsche ignited speculation about the Chrysler Group's future when he announced Feb. 14 that all options are being considered. He did not rule out the sale of the Auburn Hills-based unit.

Chrysler struggled last year, losing $1.5 billion, and Zetsche has faced growing pressure to get rid of the unit.

Farmington Hills-based Chrysler Financial is part of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services and provides financing for dealers and customers.
