Alibaba new car strategy to build smart expressway based on V2X

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Alibaba Group plans to build a smart expressway by virtue of the Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, the e-commerce giant announced on the 2018 Computing Conference.

As an important part of Alibaba's automotive upgrading strategy, the new program will be jointly implemented by several business units, including AliOS, Alibaba Cloud, DAMO Academy, AutoNavi, Alipay and Banma Tech, etc.

The V2X is the key to achieve the smart expressway. Under Alibaba's scenarios, the smart expressway will endow drivers with clairvoyance and clairaudience, fully supporting the running of different kinds of vehicles, such as traditional cars, Internet cars and autonomous cars.

The construction of the smart expressway will be processed from three technical levels, namely, the cloud control platform, the intelligent sensing base station as well as the collaborative computing system. To be specific, the sensing base station developed by DAMO Academy will be applied in road tests. AliOS is responsible for the R&D of car sensors and collaborative computing. Besides, the cloud control platform will act as a cloud brain.

Alibaba began to develop its car operating system from 2014. The group claimed that it has currently built the world's largest Internet car platform based on the AliOS-based Banma operating system. In addition, Alibaba said its new car strategy will be provided with such technical supports as autonomous driving technologies, high-precision location-based services and HP map from DAMO Academy, Qianxun SI and AutoNavi respectively.

The Chinese tech titian also formed an industrial alliance involving many prominent companies and public institutions, such as State Grid Corporation of China, China Unicom, FAW Group, Roewe, Intel, Ford Motor, Datang Telecom Group and Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport, to jointly promote the implementation of the smart expressway.
