Shanghai, December 2 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, the joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), will start to build Chevrolet cars at its Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors Co by the end of this month, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

The Norsom joint venture plant, located in the capital of North-East China's Liaoning province, was acquired by Shanghai GM back in 2004, and since then, it has been producing GM's GL8 executive vans.

Shanghai GM began to expand the Shenyagn facility in 2007. The original capacity at the plant was 50,000 units annually. By the end of this month, production will climb to more than 200,000 units annually.

The report cited informed sources as saying that Chevrolet Lova and the new-to-the-market Cruze may be produced at the plant.

The Shenyang plant is one of the three production bases jointly established by GM and SAIC. The other two bases are situated at Shanghai Jinqiao district and Yantai of Shandong province.
