Subaru recalling 1,135 Tribeca SUVs in China

By George Gao  From:Gasgoo.comJanuary 06, 2009

Shanghai, January 6 (Gasgoo.com) Because of control system flaws, Japanese automaker Subaru started today to recall 1,135 Tribeca SUVs it has sold in China, said China's quality supervisor.

The 1,135 Tribeca SUVs include the WXFCL5U model units made from Feb. 18, 2008 to April 29, 2008 and the WXF5U1H model units made from May 22, 2008 to November 26, 2008.

The acceleration sensor was incorrectly fitted in the dynamic control system, which may cause the vehicle to run unsteadily and even break away from its driver's control, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ).

There is no report yet that the problem has resulted in any crashes or injuries in China. Subaru is recalling a total of 5,130 Tribeca vehicles worldwide for the same flaw.

Yesterday, Subaru began to inform its Tribeca users in China of the defect by letter, and the company said it will arrange for the free repair or adjustment of the sensor to fix the problem.

For more information on the recall, users can visit Subaru's China website http://www.subaru-china.cn, or call the hotline 010-51353177. The quality supervising body GAQSIQ also has the product defect hotline 010-59799616, 65537365 to offer details on the recall.
