Nissan to build EVs at Oppama plant in '10

From:DatamonitorMay 20, 2009

Nissan Motor has announced that it will build electric vehicles at its Oppama plant from fall 2010.

According to the company, the plant will start electric vehicle (EV) production with capacity of 50,000 units a year in the fall of 2010, which will continuously increase for the start of EV mass-marketing in 2012.

The motors and inverters, which are key components of EVs, will be built at the Yokohama plant, and initially in the Zama operations center, respectively.

Automotive Energy Supply, a Nissan affiliated company, will produce laminated-type compact lithium-ion batteries for EVs. Nissan will continuously seek overseas production opportunities for EVs and sourcing of components.
