GM on track to emerge from bankruptcy one month earlier

By Ally Liu  From:Gasgoo.comJune 19, 2009

General Motors is planning to emerge from bankruptcy by mid-July, almost one month earlier than scheduled, said Financial Times.

The decision is expected to go forward despite that there are as many as 500 objections submitted so far, said the report.

Many concerns arise accordingly. An analyst says "it's certainly unique when the government is both the acquirer and the provider of debtor-in-possession financing."

Not just for the analyst. An AFP report says US President Barack Obama's popularity has slipped on a large degree due to most Americans (around 56 percent) oppose his rescue of General Motors, according to AFP.

Here in China, there's already frequent personnel changes underneath Shanghai GM, who claims it sees no substantial impact from GM's bankruptcy at all. Earlier this week the JV said Joseph Liu would replace Robert Socia as company executive vice president; and there's another top PR manager left days later.

Will the new GM be able to turn around or remains rather more of the same old one? Will its re-emergence affect Shanghai GM further? We'll know the answer maybe months after it comes back.
