Shanghai, July 10 (Gasgoo.com) Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz unit has announced its sales in China in June surged 52 percent from a year earlier to 5,100 units, far exceeding the industry's sales growth, Dow Jones Newswires reports Friday.
China sales of its Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicles and Smart minicars rose 50% in the first half from a year earlier to 27,000 units, said the company's spokesman in China, Trevor Hale, according to the report.
Hale said China remains one of our top markets for our flagship S-Class vehicles, but he did not give sales figures.
Chinese auto sales in June grew by 36.5% from a year earlier to 1.14 million vehicles. Total sales for the first half of the year rose to 6.1 million, and the full-year sales in 2009 are expected to exceed 11 million units, data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) shows.
