Peugeot mulling alliance with Mitsubishi

From:ReutersSeptember 04, 2009

French carmaker Peugeot Citroen is mulling an alliance with Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp, French daily La Tribune reports.

Philippe Varin, the new chief executive of PSA Peugeot Citroen is 'actively thinking about an alliance with Mitsubishi,' the paper said, without citing a specific source.

Reuters received an advanced copy of the article due to be published in La Tribune's Friday edition.

When asked to comment on the story, a PSA Peugeot Citroen spokesman said that to his knowledge 'there was nothing new,' adding 'I am not confirming anything.'

He said that Varin had previously said he wanted the group to become more global and that this could be achieved through internal and possibly external growth, industrial partnerships and possibly alliances with other carmakers.

PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi already cooperate on electrical vehicles and also plan to jointly manufacture cars in Russia.
