VW to recall 2,760 cars in China on sensor fault

By George Gao  From:Gasgoo.comSeptember 18, 2009

Shanghai, September 18 (Gasgoo.com) FAW-VW and Volkswagen's import company (China) has decided to recall 2,760 locally-made and imported VW cars in China starting October 7 due to the defective sensor, xinhuanet.com reported today, citing the country's quality watchdog.

The VW vehicles for recall include the 2009 Magotan made by FAW-VW, VW's imported Audi TT, and imported VW EOS, CC, R36, R36 Variant, GTI sedans. They were made between September 30, 2008 and August 26, 2009 and equipped with the six-speed "direct shift gearbox" (DSG).

In these DSG-equipped vehicles, the fuel temperature sensor's conducting wire is not tightly fixed and as a result the defective sensor may send some wrong signal about the temperature to the control unit, which will cause the gearbox to activate its protection device and stop power transmission.

FAW-VW and Volkswagen's import company in China will carry out a free overhaul of all the recalled vehicles, and replace or upgrade the gearbox's control unit program to remove any safety hazard, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

As the program software is still being prepared, the recall will start on October 7, 2009. If users of these vehicles have found any problem as mentioned above, they can drive their cars to the two companies' dealerships for free repair of the related sensors.
