The Yingli Photovoltaic Application Technology Research Institute, based in Baoding, Hebei province, north China, yesterday disclosed that it successfully developed the first vehicle-top solar cell around the globe.
The photovoltaic (PV) unit has power of 180 watts, and can be used as spare power energy. Vehicles equipped with the unit can reach an hourly speed of 80 to 120 kilometers on the strength of hybrid power.
The product will give a big leg up to the development of new energy vehicles in China, said analysts. Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., one of the country's fast-growing automakers, plans its A-share listing so as to raise money for the development of new energy products.
Currently, it is an important occasion for the transformation from traditional vehicles to new energy ones, said its general manager Yin Tongyue. However, a swarm of new energy investors will possibly result in the resources waste.
The general manager suggested that the Chinese central and local governments should make a reasonable industry development layout.
