Shanghai to use China IV emission standard in Nov

By George Gao  From:Gasgoo.comSeptember 29, 2009

Shanghai, September 29 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai, the Chinese super-city to host World Expo 2010, will adopt the China IV emission standards from November this year for all new cars, buses, and vehicles used for sanitary and mail services, China News reported today.

Compared with the current China III standards, the China IV (equal to Euro IV) will reduce half of emissions from light vehicles, and 30% from heavy vehicles. To ensure the quality of cleaner fuel, Shanghai has made local standards for gasoline and diesel which will be implemented soon.

Shanghai plans to take greener measures to further improve the city's air several months ahead of the international event that will kick off in May 2010. Vehicles that fail to meet the China IV emission standards will not be allowed to run on the city's roads from November.

In addition, the city government is also making incentive policies to encourage motorists to trade in their old vehicles and buy new ones, and details on the policies were released in early August.

Also from November, new vehicles on sale in Shanghai must meet the China IV emissions standard. The China IV standard oil will be used during the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, an event with the theme of "Better City, Better Life."
