Taiwan auto sales up 5.6% in Jan-to-Sept period

Shanghai, October 28 (Gasgoo.com) According to the data of Taiwan’s transportation department, the island’s sedan sales were up to 192,264 vehicles in the first nine months of this year. Sales in September surged 20.3% to 20,138 units, which witnessed the fourth continuous year-on-year increase of a single month, Gasgoo.com said.

Hotai Motor, the OEM Manufacturer of Toyota, still leads the Taiwan auto market, followed by China Motor and Nissan Taiwan. Hotai Motor sold 5,950 units in September, up 2.9%, expecting to hit 275,000 units in the whole year.

The booming growth of Taiwan’s auto market is mainly attributed to the stimulus policies made by the local government. Cutting down 30,000 NTD each for buying sedans and heavy commercial vehicles with an engine capacity less than 2 liters has largely boostered the market demand.

Boosted by the current positive market, the automakers are looking forward to a breakthrough in the next quarter of the year.

However, the favorable policy is scheduled to expire by the end of the year. Whether the policy should continue its effect has become a hot topic. Analysts predicted that without this policy, the annual total auto sales in Taiwan would fall to 220,000 units in 2010.
