U.S. company plans to produce EVs in west China

By George Gao  From:Gasgoo.comOctober 29, 2009

Shanghai, October 29 (Gasgoo.com) Textron Inc., one of America's largest multi-industry companies, plans to set up an electric vehicle (EV) production base in west China with some suitable partners, said the company's China chief, SinoCast reported today.

According to the preliminary development plan, the to-be-built base will produce 10,000 EVs to be mainly used for the common short-distance materials transportation. These vehicles are likely to be powered by the lead-acid batteries rather than the lithium-ion batteries.

Currently in China, imported EVs are usually priced at 40,000 yuan ($5,860) to 50,000 yuan, but Chinese buyers will enjoy cheaper prices after the operation of Textron's new EV production base, added the company's executive in China.

In addition to the aircraft sector, the U.S. company casts its eyes to the golf EVs now, although its EV production base in China will not start operation soon.

Textron has extended its businesses to nearly 30 countries and regions since its establishment in 1923, and its annual revenue reached as much as $14.2 billion.
