GM's Opel Astra goes Chinese as Buick Excelle

From:Monsters and Critics.comDecember 03, 2009

General Motors has adapted the Astra saloon produced by its subsidiary Opel in Germany for the Chinese market.

Dubbed the Buick Excelle, the car was shown at the recent Guangzhou car show and will go on sale from next year.

Outwardly similar to its European cousin, the Excelle can be spotted by a front grill with wide vertical chrome slats and a large Buick emblem.

The interior has been designed specifically for the Chinese market using different materials and a separate selection of exterior body colours is offered. The Buick is assembled in China where it will sell alongside the larger Opel Insignia which is marketed as the Buick Regal.

The Excelle comes with three different engines, ranging from a 1.6 litre with 116 horsepower through to the top-of-the-range turbo version with 184 horses under the bonnet. Each of the power units is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
