Nissan recalls defective Urvan E25 buses in China

By George Gao  From:Gasgoo.comJuly 18, 2008

Shanghai, July 18 (Gasgoo.com) China's quality watchdog said yesterday that it has received a recall filing from Nissan (China) which has decided to recall some of the imported Urvan E25 buses in China that were made between February 7, 2002 and January 13, 2005, reported auto.sina.com.cn yesterday.

The reported submitted by Nissan (China) to China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said that the recall starting on July 17 is due to the faulty bearing unit of the rear wheel hub of the bus. The bolts attaching the hub units to the suspension were over-torqued in early production, which may hinder safe driving as the over-torqued fasteners are more prone to loosen, potentially leading to a wheel-off situation.

The Japanese carmaker said that China now has about 277 imported Urvan E25 buses with this defect. The company has promised to check, repair or replace for free the all fasteners of the defective Urvan cars recalled from July 17.

Nissan, Japan's third largest auto maker, aims to sell 680,000 vehicles in China this year and up to 1 million vehicles by 2012, up 64% from last year, said Kimiyasu Nakamura, president of its Chinese venture Dongfeng Nissan last month.
