Mazda and Besturn to stop sharing production line

By Helen Zhang  From Gasgoo.comJune 22, 2010

Shanghai, June 22 ( FAW's second plant, which is at present in the early commissioning phase, will be going into operation in October this year, media reported recently. By that time, all models of Besturn (Benteng), including the B70 and B50, will be transferred to the second plant for production. This move will change Besturn's current sharing of the same production line with Mazda 6.

All the time, Besturn's model B70 has been sharing a production line with Mazda 6. With the increase of Besturn and Mazda's new models, the production capacity of FAW is in a high degree of saturation. It is estimated that the production of Mazda 6 will be greatly increased after the second plant is put into operation.

Mazda China said that that in 2010, Mazda aimed to have a year-on-year growth of 22% on its sales volume in Chinese market to 220,000 units, of which FAW Mazda and Chang'an Mazda accounted for 130,000 and 90,000 units respectively. In the second half of this year, FAW Mazda will put its MPV model: Mazda 8 into production.

Judging from the current situation, boosted by the price-cutting policy, sales of Mazda 6 has increased dramatically. Data show that from 3th May to 4th June, the sales of Mazda 6 had a growth of 70% compared with its sales in April.
