Renault-Nissan inks electric car deal for China city

From The Detroit NewsNovember 25, 2009

The Renault-Nissan Alliance, the government of Guangzhou Municipality in China and Dongfeng Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co.'s Chinese venture partner, have formed a partnership to promote electric car transport in the city of Guangzhou.

Nissan and its partners will conduct a feasibility study of the infrastructure development and incentives required to make electric cars accessible to customers in Guangzhou, a large city formerly known as Canton.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance, which will start marketing electric cars in the U.S. and Japan next year, has signed more than 30 agreements with cities, counties, states and governments to promote zero-emission electric cars and establish the charging infrastructure for the batteries.

Renault-Nissan plans to offer an electric car for sale in China in 2011, Nissan said in a statement.

Nissan unveiled the Leaf electric car in August, and Renault SA displayed four battery-powered concept cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September for vehicles that will go into production within three years.
