Mazda’s China retail sales in Dec., 2019 jump 19.2% year on year

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. said its new car retail sales in December, 2019 reached 24,492 units, of which FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda contributed 10,418 units and 14,074 units respectively.

Based on the year-ago figure, the Japanese automaker saw its China deliveries jump 19.2%, the second month in a row achieving year-on-year double-digit growth.

Full-year deliveries of Mazda's China market amounted to 227,750 units, falling 16.4% compared with the year of 2018.

Both joint ventures maintained an upward momentum in Dec. sales. FAW Mazda posted a year-on-year increase of 22.5%, and gained growth for three straight months. Retailing 91,416 new cars through 2019, the joint venture still faced a decline of 16.1%.

Among vehicles delivered last month, 4,724 units (+32.5%) were the Mazda6 Atenza cars, the highest figure for the year of 2019. Besides, the deliveries of the Mazda CX-4 leapt 15.8% over the previous year to 5,694 units, making its annual retail sales amount to 49,419 units.

It is worth noting that the all-new CX-4 just hit the market on November 8. Its advent helped the model's deliveries jump 17.5% month on month in the year-end period.

Changan Mazda's deliveries grew 16.9% from the prior-year period in December, but its full-year sales slid 16.5% to 136,334 units. Last month, 10,956 consumers took delivery of the Mazda3 Axela, a surge of 35.4%. Moreover, the deliveries of the Mazda CX-5 edged up 3% over a year ago to 2,990 units, making its 2019 sales total 35,620 units.

Changan Mazda is said to locally manufacture the Mazda CX-30, a small-sized SUV positioned between the CX-3 and the CX-5. Powered by the latest SKYACTIV-X engine, the homegrown CX-30 will compete with such models as the Honda Vezel, the Toyota C-HR and the TACQUA.
