Huawei publishes patents about EV charging, IoV security

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Huawei recently unveiled two patents related to automotive businesses, signaling the telecommunications giant's efforts to follow the trends of auto electrification and connectivity.

According to the website of China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the patent with application number 2016108527197 is named “electric vehicles (EVs) and methods of charging between electric vehicles”. It was filed in Sept. 2016 and was published on Feb. 23 2021.

The patent is designed to provide an EV-to-EV charging method. To be specific, during the process of connecting a EV's DC socket and the AC socket of another EV via a charge/discharge cable, a car's battery pack can be controlled to recharge another electric car according to the latter's charging demands. In short, the technology allows car users to share battery capacity with each other.

With an application number of 2019107128278, the other patent is about a method of IoV (Internet of Vehicles) security communications and was unveiled on Feb. 23 as well. The patent abstract shows that this application puts forth a solution of security agent to coordinate or assist the secure communication between the IoV terminal and the field server.

In addition to the aforesaid two, Huawei also published in 2021 other auto-related patents, such as “a brake assist system and braking method”, “a method and device for pedestrian detection and machine-readable storage media & chips”, “silicon-carbon composites and relevant production methods” that can extend a battery's service life, and “NEV-related decelerators and powertrain”, according to the CNIPA.
