WM’s first 5G-enabled production model rolls off assembly line

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 8, 2020, the automaker’s NEV plant located in Huanggang of Hubei province started production and its first 5G-enabled production model rolled off the assembly line. The startup plans to kick off the delivery of the all-new SUV at the end of 2020.

The new model is set to retain WM Motor’s iconic design, and its size is similar to that of the EX5 while its rear resembles that of the EX6 Plus. In addition, the automaker plans to mass produce vehicles outfitted with Valet Parking solution co-developed with Baidu this year. The WM EX5 model adopting this technology can perform remote pick-up or return, automated parking and charging at certain locations using mobile devices.

WM Motor said its annual sales in 2019 reached 16,876 units and its sales from Q1 to Q3 accounted for 1.16% of the global NEV sales. Besides, it is said the EV startup is pushing ahead with its Series D financing for $1 billion funding. In March 2019, the startup secured RMB3 billion ($430 billion) in Series C financing and it has raised RMB23 billion ($3.3 billion) in total up to now.

WM’s NEV plant in Hubei involves a total investment of RMB20 billion ($2.9 billion), covering an area of roughly 700,000 square meters and a floorage of 300,000 square meters. The first phase will see the construction of workshops for stamping, bodywork, painting, assembly and battery, and the facility will provide about 2,200 jobs for local residents when it is completed (photo source: WM Motor).
