China’s car parc amounts to 275 million units as of September 2020

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China's motor vehicle parc amounted to roughly 365 million units by the end of September 2020, of which 275 million units are automobiles, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.

There were 9.03 million motor vehicles newly registered in the third quarter, showing a robust growth of 20.48% compared to the same period in 2019 and a increase of 8.01% over the previous quarter. For the first three quarters, the volume of newly-registered motor vehicles climbed 2.41% over a year ago to 23.16 million units.

Affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the number of motor vehicles newly registered in the first quarter slumped 21.17% year on year to 5.77 million motor vehicles. The vehicle consumption started to rebound in the second quarter with the motor vehicle registrations rising 7.18% year on year to 8.36 million units.

Among the motor vehicles registered in the Jul.-Sept. period, 6.173 million units were automobiles, a year-over-year increase of 7.66%, while the number for motorcycles soared 61.13% to 2.62 million units.

By the end of September, there had been 69 cities in China whose respective car parc all topped 1 million units, 3 cities more than that of the year-ago period. A total of 12 cities got over 3 million automobiles run on roads there, namely, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Tianjin and Qingdao. Notably, the car parc of Beijing and Chengdu exceeded 6 million units and 5 million units respectively, and the volume of Chongqing, Suzhou and Shanghai all surpassed 4 million units.
