Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Intelligent-connected vehicles (ICVs) with PA (partial automation) and CA (conditional automation) features will account for over 50% of overall new car sales by 2025, according to China's Technology Roadmap for Intelligent-Connected Vehicles 2.0 formally launched at the 2020 WICV (World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference).
Li Keqiang, chief scientist of National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, delivering a speech at the 2020 WICV
According to Li Keqiang, chief scientist of National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, the 2.0 Roadmap updates and perfects the definition and technical architecture about ICVs, and the taxonomy of auto-related intelligence and connectivity. It also offers the analysis of the current development situation and the evolving trend of ICVs. Besides, the new document includes the overall development goal, the vision, the milestones and technical routes of ICV technologies for the period of 2021-2035.
According to the 2.0 Roadmap, as of 2035, a system of ICV technologies and industry will be fully established; the ICV industrial ecosystem will be improved; the intelligence for complete vehicles will be significantly elevated; highly automated ICVs will be put into scale application; driving safety and comfort will be remarkably enhanced; the number of traffic accidents and casualties will be greatly reduced; the efficiency of commutation and logistics transportation will be evidently lifted; the traffic energy consumption and emission will be effectively decreased.
To achieve the overall goal, the 2.0 version sets three milestones for the year of 2025, 2030 and 2035. By the end of 2025, the ICVs with PA and CA features will account for over 50% of annual new vehicle sales; the highly automated (HA) ICVs will step into the market and over 50% of new vehicles will carry C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything) system.
As for technical routes, the technology architecture as referred to in the 2.0 Roadmap embraces the key technologies related to complete vehicles and information interaction, the basic supporting core technologies as well as the in-car platform and infrastructures that sustain ICV development.
Regarding the core technologies of complete vehicles, by the end of 2025, the technologies like complex environment perception and computing & decision-making will meet the design demands for the CA autonomous driving system and the HA system in specific scenarios. By 2030, the vehicle key technologies will satisfy the design requirements of HA autonomous driving in a wide operational design domain. Additionally, technologies like perception, decision-making and drive-by-wire execution will meet the design demands of FA (fully automation) system.
