This was the second time of price increase Tesla announced this year for its China market. On March 24, the company claimed the prices of the China-built Model Y's two variants (the Long Range AWD and the Performance AWD) were both raised by 8,000 yuan ($1,245) to 347,900 yuan ($54,085) and 377,900 yuan ($58,750). The increase was mainly due to the growth in manufacturing cost, an executive from Tesla said after being reached for comment.

For the first quarter of 2021, consumers in China bought the MLI (Mandatory Liability Insurance for Traffic Accidents of Motor Vehicles) for 69,195 China-made Tesla-branded vehicles, including 52,443 Model 3s and 16,752 Model Ys, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC). On the monthly basis, Tesla was seeing its China insurance registrations consecutively climb to 34,635 units in March from 16,521 units in January.
