Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus reported a year-on-year China’s sales growth of 16.5% with 19,325 vehicles sold in November. The sales in the first eleven months totaled 180,239 units, a surge of 21.01% from the year-ago period.

Of that, 7,449 HEVs (hybrid electric vehicle) were sold in Nov., accounting for 38.5% of the total monthly sales. The HEV year-to-date sales in China stood at 61,204 units, a new record-breaking figure.  

According to local media reports, Cadillac, a pacesetter in the second-tier luxury brands, posted sales of roughly 16,800 units in November in China ,a year-on-year slid of 20% while the cumulative sales from Jan. to Nov. edged down 5.7% from the previous-year period to 194,800 units. Compared with the division of General Motors, the Toyota’s brand achieved more Nov. sales in China and the year-to-date sales gap between them was narrowed down. 

Lexus’s robust sales performance was partly contributed by its sophisticated product deployment. In this year, the brand rolled out the new UX (hybrid) and the new RX/RX L (medium to large-sized luxury SUVs). At Auto Guangzhou 2019, it premiered the UX 300e—its first mass-produced battery-only model. In addition, this year also saw the luxury brand offer new variants of the ES, the NX, the UX and the LS, with updated intelligent connectivity and safety equipment.      

The LM—Lexus’s fire-new MPV model—is expected to hit the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2020. In the coming five years, the brand plans to unveil 15 electric vehicles and 3 of them will be BEVs, most of which are likely to sell in the world’s largest auto market (photo source: Lexus).
