BAIC BJEV’s Jan.-Sept. sales up by 20% year on year, while Sept. sales down 13%

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BAIC BJEV saw its vehicle sales in the first nine months total 98,382 units, up by 20.45% compared with the year-ago period while September sales of 10,009 units slid 13% year on year, the parent company BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co., Ltd reported on October 11. 

The NEV market is cooling down due to NEV subsidy phase-out and downturn trend of auto market. However, BJEV’s monthly sales from July to September have all maintained around 10,000 units. But the company has only accomplished 44.7% of its annual sales goal of 220,000 units by the end of Sept.

The BAIC Group’s NEV arm has so far deployed two product portfolios. One is a new generation of medium and high-end products based on its self-developed Darwin in-car AI system that is designed to liberate and entertain drivers with “self-growing” ability. The other is cost-effective all-electric vehicles.

Besides, BAIC BJEV is striving for more share of the ride-hailing market to boost the sales. In March this year, it delivered 10,000 vehicles to BAIC-Xiaoju New Energy Auto Technology Co. Ltd (“JingJu”), a joint venture with Didi Chuxing, the world’s leading one-stop transportation platform. It’s said that the company plans to deliver 20,000 BEVs to Jingju for ride-hailing service.

In 2018, BJEV sold 158,000 BEVs, surging 53.11% year on year, winning the sales champion in the China’s BEV market for six years in a row. However, the NEV market is gradually driven by the market itself in 2019. It remains to be seen that whether the company can continue to be the No.1 in the fierce Q4 competition.
