C-NCAP awards five star crash test rating to five Chinese made vehicles
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 11) - Although Chinese models still lag behind their foreign counterparts in terms of safety quality, the results of the latest China-New Car Assessment Program suggests that they are making strides forward. In the latest C-NCAP evaluation, a total of five own brand vehicles received five stars during crash testing, Economic Observer News reported today. They are as follows: the Chery Riich G3, Geely Gleagle GX7, Dongfeng Fengshen A60, Zotye Z300 and GAC Trumpchi GS5.
The new Ford Focus, Mazda3 Xingcheng and Toyota E'Z also received five stars.
The C-NCAP is conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center in Tianjin. The latest round, which is the second this year, is the final one to use old standards from 2009. It also marks the best performance for domestic manufacturers as a whole since its inception. A total of 15 vehicles, including one subcompact, eight compacts, two midsizes and four SUVs, were evaluated this time around.
"The 15 vehicles from this evaluation all performed exceptionally," the C-NCAP report reads. It goes on to specifically mention own brand models, commenting that they have made significant progress in safety technology and product quality. According to the report, the grades own brand models earned this year are about the same, or in some cases slightly more, than joint venture vehicles tested around the same time last year.
