Tesla finishes construction of Shanghai-based Supercharger production plant

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Tesla completed the construction of its Supercharger production plant in Shanghai in late August and is going through debugging of the equipment that will run from August 21 to September 25, according to a local media outlet.

The acceptance testing of the project is expected to be conducted between September 26 and October 30, according to the local report.

The building works officially commenced on January 20 this year, according to an environment impact assessment report. The plant consists of 5 semi-automatic assembly lines, which are capable of producing 10,000 Superchargers per year.

The site will produce the V3 Superchargers. Tesla claimed that a V3 Supercharger can add 250 km of range for a Model 3 by charging for 15 minutes.

Tesla China mentioned last year that the project involved a construction period of 6 months and was expected for operation in June 2021. However, the construction period was extended by 3 months after Tesla made some significant adjustments for the project.

Tesla launched its 7,000th Superchargers in Chinese mainland on August 14, the U.S. EV manufacturer announced via its Weibo account, around seven years after the first China-dedicated one was built in Shanghai. The number of Tesla's Supercharger stations in China has already surpassed 900.

Tesla has currently deployed in over 330 cities across China its charging network, which encompasses not only the aforementioned supercharging stations and Superchargers, but also 700 plus destination charging stations and 1,730 plus destination charging piles.
