The San José-based NIO House was developed in partnership with local distributor Horizontes Cielo Azul and inaugurated in the presence of diplomatic and industry representatives. The opening represents more than a geographic expansion: it also introduces NIO's first overseas store to simultaneously showcase its three-brand portfolio, making Costa Rica the company's first international market to adopt this multi-brand approach from the outset.

Located in the Combai Mercado Urbano complex in Escazú, a prominent lifestyle destination in the San José metropolitan area, the new facility is designed as a hybrid brand and community space. Beyond functioning as a showroom, it integrates exhibition areas, a café, meeting rooms, and flexible event zones. The concept reflects NIO's established “NIO House” model, which blends product display with social engagement to foster longer-term relationships with users while embedding the brand within local cultural and lifestyle contexts.

Customers in Costa Rica can now access a range of NIO's electric vehicles spanning its three marques, including the ET5 Touring, EL6, and EL8—known in China as the ET5T, ES6, and ES8—as well as models from its sub-brands ONVO (L60) and FIREFLY. NIO also plans to begin pre-sales of the ONVO L90 on April 16, timed to coincide with EXPOMOVIL, one of the country's key annual auto exhibitions.

NIO's entry comes as Costa Rica's EV market gathers pace, supported by rising consumer interest in premium intelligent vehicles and favorable long-term growth dynamics. The company will rely on Horizontes Cielo Azul—one of the country's leading EV distributors with a track record of scaling Chinese brands to market leadership—to localize operations. Both sides say they aim to build out service capabilities and tailor the ownership experience to local expectations, signaling a long-term commitment rather than a limited market test.
