Beijing (Gasgoo)- U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla sold 56,006 China-made vehicles in September, jumping 26.5% month on month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Among those Shanghai-made Tesla vehicles sold last month, 3,853 vehicles were exported from China to foreign markets, slumping 87.7% from a month ago, while local sales in China surged 304.8% month on month to 52,153. Monthly sales of the Model Y totaled 33,033 in China.
By the end of September, China-made Tesla vehicle sales have surpassed 300,000 units in 2021, 200,000 units were sold in China local market, the automaker said in a statement.
According to the association, overall retail sales of passenger vehicles in the biggest auto market fell 17.3% from a year ago to 1.582 million units last month, while monthly retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles soared 202.1% to 334,000 units.
In the first nine months, the market sold 14.486 million passenger vehicles, jumping 12%, 5 percentage points less than the growth of the first eight months. Year-to-date retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles more than tripled (up by 203.1%) year on year to 1.818 million units.
In September, BYD’s new energy vehicle wholesale volume amounted to 70,432, outnumbering Tesla, which was followed by SAIC GM Wuling (38,850), SAIC Motor PV (21,552), GAC AION (13,572), Great Wall Motor (12,770). NIO (10,628) and XPeng (10,412) also had monthly sales surpass 10,000 vehicles.
The market shipped 14,800 new energy vehicles last month to other countries. eGT New Energy Automotive Co., Ltd, the electric vehicle joint venture between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., exported 5,164 new energy vehicles in September, followed by SAIC Motor PV (4,560 exported) and Tesla.
