Gasgoo Munich- Data from the Tianyancha app shows CATL Chery (Wuhu) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has officially registered. Capitalized at 1 billion yuan, the entity is jointly held by CATL and Chery Automobile. Corporate filings indicate this is the second joint venture established by the pair in 2026 focused on battery manufacturing, signaling a deeper integration of their industrial chains.

The new company’s business scope spans battery manufacturing, the production and sales of components, and energy storage technical services. It will focus on the R&D and manufacturing of power battery-related products.

Back in February 2026, the partners had already registered CATL Chery (Hefei) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. with a registered capital of 2 billion yuan. CATL holds a 51% stake, while Chery Automobile and Chery Commercial Vehicle collectively hold the remaining 49%. With combined registered capital totaling 3 billion yuan, the Hefei and Wuhu joint ventures appear designed to establish a dual power battery footprint in Anhui province.

The partnership has deep roots. In 2023, CATL and Chery jointly launched the battery brand ENER-Q, with Chery becoming the first to equip its models with sodium-ion batteries.

In April 2026, Chery, CATL, CATL Amperex, and Chery Green Energy signed a strategic cooperation agreement to coordinate on the development of chargeable and swappable models and the rollout of battery swapping networks, aiming to advance a vehicle-energy integration ecosystem. This sustained, multi-tiered collaboration is set to secure a stable supply of core products—including Qilin and sodium-ion batteries—for Chery’s new energy models. The two sides are also jointly pushing the commercial application of frontier technologies like semi-solid-state batteries and battery swapping.

Establishing joint ventures between automakers and leading battery makers has become a defining model for deep integration in the new energy supply chain. For Chery, this move locks in battery production capacity and mitigates supply chain volatility, underpinning the sales growth of its new energy lineup. CATL, meanwhile, secures a deeper tie with a key OEM, stabilizing order volume and leveraging Anhui’s industrial cluster advantages to expand its share of the power battery and energy storage markets. As these two major joint venture projects advance, the partners are poised to build synergies in both battery costs and the speed of deploying new technologies.
