Gasgoo Munich- BMW Group recently kicked off trial production of its Energy Intelligence Control System at the powertrain plant within its Shenyang production base. The milestone indicates that every core stage of the sixth-generation traction battery lifecycle is now fully localized in China. This spans R&D, component supply, cell manufacturing, and the production of both battery packs and control systems.

The Energy Intelligence Control System serves as the central control unit for the sixth-generation battery, featuring hardware and software developed entirely in-house by BMW. Mounted atop the battery pack, it ensures the safe and intelligent operation of the high-voltage system. To meet precision requirements, the Shenyang facility utilized virtual planning and debugging technologies. This simulated production scenarios before installation, helping teams identify optimization opportunities early and mitigate risks.
Currently, the Shenyang powertrain plant stands as BMW's only facility outside Germany capable of producing the Energy Intelligence Control System. It is also the sole site within the automaker's global production network that integrates casting, engine, battery, and control system manufacturing under one roof.
Bai Yaochen, head of BMW Brilliance's Powertrain Plant, noted that collaboration across production, R&D, and procurement has fully prepared workflows, systems, and staff for mass production this year. Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board of Management member for Production, called the move a significant milestone for sixth-generation e-drive technology industrialization in China. He added that BMW is pressing ahead with its local production and supply strategy to further solidify the industrial foundation for its "Neue Klasse" vehicles in the market.
