BYD has been laying the groundwork for in-car connectivity for some time; adding Samsung support marks the latest step in refining its ecosystem. According to reports, on July 15, 2025, BYD officially rolled out "phone-to-car connectivity" across its entire lineup via an OTA update, achieving full compatibility with major Chinese smartphone brands. That update covered Huawei, OPPO, Honor, vivo, Xiaomi, Redmi, OnePlus, Realme, and iQOO, while aligning with three major connectivity ecosystems: Carlink, HUAWEI HiCar, and Honor Smart Connection.
Expanding support to Samsung not only broadens the range of compatible devices but also underscores BYD’s commitment to building out a comprehensive smart mobility ecosystem.
Footage from BYD’s official video reveals that the new Samsung integration relies on the ICCOA Carlink solution. Beyond the core "shake-to-transfer" feature, the protocol supports mobile screen mirroring and seamless navigation handover to the vehicle.
Public records show that the "Intelligent Car Connectivity Open Alliance" (ICCOA) was established in September 2021, spearheaded by Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo. The consortium—which includes Changan Automobile, Geely Holding, SAIC Motor, Yuanfeng Technology, ThunderSoft, and CAIC Smart Connectivity—was formed to advance the integration of smart devices and vehicles. At its launch, the alliance stated it would focus on research and standardization for connectivity scenarios, aiming to achieve deep fusion between phones and cars, technology and data, and hardware and software.
