Gasgoo Munich-The Auto China 2026 kicked off on April 24, marking the global debut of the Sea Lion 08 — a new large flagship SUV from BYD’s Ocean Series.
Positioned as a strategic model to push the Ocean Series into the premium segment, the Sea Lion 08 immediately grabbed the spotlight in the 300,000 yuan new-energy SUV market. It features Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design, a high-capacity battery paired with flash-charging technology, and a suite of core configurations.

The Sea Lion 08 is positioned as a large flagship SUV, measuring 5,115 mm by 1,999 mm by 1,800 mm with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. It offers both spacious five- and six-seat layouts, catering to diverse family travel needs.
On the design front, the new model adopts the Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 philosophy. The front fascia, dubbed "Vast Sea Realm," draws inspiration from a whale cruising the ocean, featuring "Ice Eye" headlights with a 752 cm² illuminated area and a full-width "Tidal Starlight" position lamp for striking recognizability. Side profiles evoke the sea horizon, equipped with flush door handles and floating wheel hub caps. The rear boasts a wide-body design with layered, tidal-gradient taillights. Color options include Sea Mist Purple and Frost Jade Silver.
Powertrain and charging capabilities are the Sea Lion 08’s core strengths. As BYD’s first plug-in hybrid SUV equipped with flash-charging technology, the model is available in both PHEV and pure electric versions. The PHEV variant offers a CLTC pure-electric range of 400 km, while the EV version reaches 900 km — placing both its charging efficiency and range at the forefront of the industry.
Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery, rear-wheel steering, the DiSus-A system, and the God's Eye 5.0 intelligent driving system, balancing handling agility, driving stability, and intelligent safety.
The Sea Lion 08 and the Seal 08 now form the "Ocean Series 8" dual flagship lineup, signaling a new phase of expansion and quality advancement for the Ocean Series. Building on a user base of 6.8 million, BYD’s Ocean Series is refining its new-energy market matrix with a premium product layout.
