The companies will concentrate their cooperation on technology development and commercial innovation.
Their joint technical work will cover a broad range of commercial vehicle applications, including tractors, dump trucks, cargo trucks, special-purpose vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The two companies plan to accelerate the adoption of new materials, battery systems and other emerging technologies while jointly developing technical specifications for commercial vehicle batteries.
The partnership will also explore new commercial models, including a proposed "battery bank" for commercial vehicles. By separating battery ownership from vehicle ownership and managing batteries as independent assets, the companies aim to reduce customers' initial acquisition costs and operating risks over the vehicle life cycle.
CATL and Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor plan to deepen their cooperation by combining battery technology, large-scale delivery capabilities and life-cycle services. The five-year agreement is intended to support the commercial vehicle industry's transition toward lower-carbon operations and more sustainable growth.
