FAW Bestune Yueyi 08 Launches, Another 100,000-yuan B-segment Car Enters the Market

Edited by Greg From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- Spending 100,000 yuan on a B-segment new energy sedan is fast becoming the new normal in China’s auto market.

Historically, the mid-size sedan segment was dominated by joint ventures, with mainstream prices ranging from 180,000 to 250,000 yuan. Now, as domestic brands rapidly iterate new energy technology and supply chain costs fall, a growing number of automakers are pushing B-segment electric sedan prices down into the 100,000 to 150,000 yuan bracket. This shift is propelling the niche into a new phase of competition defined by high specifications and low prices.

On July 12, FAW Bestune officially unveiled the Yueyi 08. Positioned as a B+ segment family smart sports sedan, the model offers both pure electric and extended-range powertrain options. With a limited-time guide price ranging from 99,900 to 139,900 yuan, deliveries began immediately upon launch.

For the broader market, this is just another contender entering the 100,000-yuan new energy arena. For FAW Bestune, however, the Yueyi 08 carries the weight of the brand’s transition to electrification. As competition in the new energy sector intensifies, establishing a fresh brand identity through this product is a challenge Bestune must answer.

Boosting Competitiveness with Segment-Exceeding Specs

In terms of positioning, the Yueyi 08 targets the 100,000 to 150,000 yuan new energy market—a sweet spot for families. Rather than relying on a single standout specification, it emphasizes a balance of overall product capabilities.

First, consider the fundamentals that matter most to new energy users. The Yueyi 08 is built on an 800V high-voltage platform and features a 6C ultra-fast charging battery. Official data indicates a 30% to 80% charge can take as little as 7 minutes and 30 seconds, with energy consumption as low as 11.4 kWh per 100 km. The pure electric version offers a maximum CLTC range of 650 km, with an official low-temperature range retention rate of 65.6%. The extended-range variant boasts a combined range of 1,765 km, catering to both city commutes and long-distance travel.

As competition in the new energy market enters deep waters, range, charging efficiency, and winter performance have become table stakes. The Yueyi 08 essentially covers these dimensions with specifications that meet or exceed mainstream standards.

Beyond covering the basics, the new model prioritizes the driving experience. The Yueyi 08 utilizes a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout to achieve a 50:50 weight distribution, supplemented by a five-link independent suspension, FSD adaptive damping system, and Bosch comfort braking system. The company states that the chassis was tuned by a German team; it balances handling stability while optimizing the jerkiness often felt during acceleration and braking in electric vehicles, aiming to enhance daily comfort for families.

Visually, the car adopts a coupe-like design with a drag coefficient as low as 0.198. Features include a "Galaxy Waterfall" lighting system and frameless doors with soft-closing mechanisms. With a variety of exterior and interior color options, the design seeks a balance between sportiness and family-oriented practicality.

Intelligence and safety form the other pillar of the Yueyi 08’s configuration. The cabin is powered by an 8295P dual-NPU chip supporting multimodal AI interaction. Higher trims are equipped with a LiDAR unit and 27 sensing hardware pieces, utilizing Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving computing platform to enable highway navigation assist and automated parking. Additionally, a 23-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system further elevates the smart cabin experience.

On the safety front, the vehicle employs a "nine-cross, nine-longitudinal" body structure, with high-strength steel accounting for 83% of the build. It is equipped with a 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength anti-collision beam and nine airbags, further reinforcing passive safety capabilities.

Furthermore, FAW Bestune simultaneously introduced its "521PLUS" service system. This includes policies such as a lifetime warranty on core electric components, replacement rather than repair for batteries exceeding degradation limits, and compensation for fire incidents involving the powertrain—all aimed at alleviating user concerns about ownership.

Overall, the Yueyi 08 attempts to establish a comprehensive set of product capabilities spanning charging, range, chassis dynamics, intelligence, safety, and after-sales service.

Why Choose the "Segment-Exceeding Specs" Strategy?

China's new energy market is gradually shifting from an era of growth to one of stock competition. This is especially true in the 100,000 to 150,000 yuan price bracket, where domestic brands like BYD, Geely Galaxy, Leapmotor, Deepal, and Changan Qiyuan are continuously rolling out new products. This relentless release has reset configuration standards and pushed the entry price for B-segment electric sedans steadily lower.

For latecomers, relying on price alone is no longer enough to break into the market.

In terms of brand development, FAW Bestune has been pushing its transition to new energy vehicles in recent years. However, compared to domestic brands that have already established scale advantages, there is still room for improvement in its brand awareness, market buzz, and the influence of its new energy products. In the current market environment, continuing to rely on the development paths of the internal combustion engine era clearly won't meet the demands of this new competition.

Consequently, the Yueyi 08 has chosen a strategy better suited to the current climate: elevating the product's value proposition through segment-exceeding specifications.

Features like the 800V high-voltage platform, 6C ultra-fast charging, rear-wheel-drive architecture, dual powertrain options, a high-spec safety body, and advanced intelligent driving—configurations once mostly found on vehicles costing around 200,000 yuan—have been concentrated into a product priced under 140,000 yuan. The core objective is not simply to stack specifications, but to establish product distinctiveness in a highly homogenized market.

This approach is not an isolated case. In recent years, brands like Leapmotor and Geely Galaxy have rapidly gained market share through a "high specs, low price" strategy. As supply chains mature and economies of scale take effect, offering segment-exceeding configurations has gradually become a crucial method for domestic brands to compete.

However, this also means the barrier to entry has been raised. For consumers, segment-exceeding configurations are shifting from a bonus to a prerequisite; relying solely on parameter advantages is no longer enough to build a long-term defensive moat.

For FAW Bestune, the greater significance of the Yueyi 08 lies in using a single product to rebuild the brand's competitive identity in the new energy market, rather than merely fighting for the sales volume of one model.

Looking across the industry, the 100,000-yuan B-segment new energy sedan market will remain one of the fiercely contested battlegrounds. As more products enter and prices and configurations are constantly reset, the focus of competition will gradually shift from specification comparisons to comprehensive capabilities including brand strength, distribution channels, service, and user reputation.

With its relatively complete product configuration, the Yueyi 08 has won FAW Bestune a "ticket" to enter this track. Yet, whether it can ultimately gain a foothold in this intense competition will depend on the final pricing structure, delivery capabilities, and the sustained accumulation of market reputation.
