Gasgoo Munich- GAC Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Shell Hong Kong Limited have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure and enhancing energy services in Hong Kong. The agreement was signed on June 12 at Shell Hong Kong's headquarters, bringing together one of China's emerging automotive energy service providers and a longstanding player in Hong Kong's energy market.

The collaboration comes as Hong Kong intensifies efforts to promote vehicle electrification and reduce transportation-related emissions. Through initiatives such as the EV Roadmap and the High-Speed Charging Incentive Scheme, the city has outlined plans to install an additional 3,000 fast-charging points by 2030. Against this backdrop, the partnership reflects GAC Energy's efforts to align with Hong Kong's low-carbon development agenda while extending its energy-service ecosystem beyond the Chinese Mainland.

Shell Hong Kong enters the partnership with an extensive local energy network and decades of operational experience. Its business spans retail energy services, commercial fuels, lubricants, aviation, and marine sectors. The company currently operates 68 Shell Recharge charging stations across Hong Kong, equipped with a total of 685 charging connectors, alongside a network of 39 petrol stations. This established infrastructure is expected to provide a strong platform for future charging network expansion and customer service integration.

Beyond strengthening charging-network interoperability, the agreement represents an important component of GAC's broader international expansion strategy, which places increasing emphasis on ecosystem partnerships and localized support capabilities. Hong Kong has been identified as a strategic entry point for the company's overseas energy ambitions.

The cooperation also complements GAC's "Hong Kong ACTION" initiative, launched in 2025 under the principle of "In Hong Kong, For Hong Kong." The program seeks to build a comprehensive local presence encompassing vehicle products, distribution channels, customer services, energy infrastructure, and mobility ecosystems. Through its integrated overseas operating model, GAC Energy aims to deliver end-to-end energy solutions for EV users while building a scalable international energy network.

A key element of the partnership will be the integration of Shell Recharge facilities into the GAC International mobile app later this year. Once connected, users will be able to access Shell's charging network through a unified digital platform, creating a more seamless link between vehicles, charging infrastructure, and network services. The move is intended to simplify charging access and improve the overall ownership experience for EV drivers in Hong Kong.

Looking further ahead, the two companies plan to jointly develop additional charging stations across Hong Kong by the end of 2027. Initial deployments will focus on prime commercial districts, with priority given to the installation of 240kW ultra-fast charging equipment. The expansion is expected to strengthen charging coverage in high-demand locations and support the city's continued transition toward electric mobility.
