Geely 2030 Overseas Strategy: Launching Over 10 New Energy Models

Edited by Yara From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- Gasgoo reported on April 21 that Geely Auto has laid out its strategic roadmap for overseas markets at the 2026 International Business Partner Conference. The company set core targets for 2030: launching more than 10 new energy models internationally. Overseas sales will account for over a third of total volume. It targets a 5% share of the global market. Geely aims to establish a brand image recognized for technological leadership abroad.

The 2030 strategy is built on a clear market foundation and development context. Geely's overall sales target for 2026 is 3.45 million units, with exports originally pegged at 640,000 — a 52% increase from the 420,000 units sold overseas in 2025. However, the company has since revised its internal targets upward, now aiming for 750,000 overseas units this year, with the figure set to exceed 1 million in 2027.

To support this global strategy, Geely has previously identified three key focus areas. First, Southeast Asia will serve as a strategic hub. Using the AHTV industrial park in Malaysia as a beachhead, the company is building a 500,000-unit facility that integrates R&D, production, sales, and service. This complex is designed to radiate across the ASEAN market, cementing Geely's regional foundation.

Second, Geely is targeting developed markets like Europe and the U.S. with a premium-focused approach. By leveraging Volvo's established distribution networks and Renault's footprint in South America, the company aims to drive scalable growth in these high-value regions.

Third, the automaker is adopting a diversified, open strategy for global expansion. This involves a mix of product exports, brand building, resource integration, and technology transfer. By establishing localized operations in key markets, Geely aims to transform itself from a Chinese manufacturer into a truly global brand.

Geely has also set a broader 2030 target: global sales exceeding 6.5 million units, with new energy vehicles accounting for roughly 75% of the mix. The company's international business is already accelerating, with overseas sales topping 203,000 units in the first quarter of 2026 — a 126% surge from the previous year.

As the global auto industry grapples with divergent technology paths and regionalized demand, accelerating overseas expansion has become a consensus among Chinese automakers. Geely's rapid international growth provides a solid foundation for its 2030 vision. This clarified strategy marks an upgrade to its globalization playbook, positioning the company to navigate fierce competition and capitalize on the global shift toward electrification.
