Gasgoo Munich- Geely's Galaxy M8 has surfaced in the latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filings, according to Gasgoo. While this mid-to-large plug-in hybrid SUV carries over the M9's design language, it makes a pivotal shift in layout: dropping the six-seat configuration for a spacious five-seat setup. The move targets drivers who demand maximum interior room and long range but can live without a third row.

Styling-wise, the M8 features a closed front grille flanked by a full-width starlight light bar, with an active air intake integrated into the lower bumper. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit indicates the car will likely continue using the Haohan intelligent driving system. The side profile is square and rugged, employing traditional mechanical door handles, while the rear mirrors the M9 with a continuous taillight strip, a spoiler, and a high-mounted brake light.
Measuring 5,205 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall, the M8 rides on a 3,030 mm wheelbase — dimensions identical to the M9. Yet, by ditching the third row, the five-seat layout is expected to deliver significantly more rear legroom and trunk space than its sibling.
On the options front, the M8 will offer a golden badge, with market watchers anticipating a "Black Gold" premium edition. Buyers can choose from 20- or 21-inch wheels in four distinct styles. Under the hood lies a 1.5-liter turbo plug-in hybrid system — the engine pumps out 120 kW, or roughly 163 hp — available in both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
Energy storage comes by way of a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 53.42 kWh. The two-wheel-drive version offers a pure electric range of 231 km on the CLTC cycle, while the four-wheel-drive model extends that to 251 km. The filing lists fuel consumption at roughly 5.75 liters per 100 km. Curb weight stands at 2,470 kg for the RWD variant and 2,620 kg for the AWD, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,120 kg.
Although the mid-to-large five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV segment is hardly short on options, the Galaxy M8 carves out a competitive edge with M9-grade dimensions and a substantial 53.42 kWh battery — strengths in both space and pure electric range. Ultimately, its market reception will depend heavily on the pricing strategy and equipment combinations when it officially hits showrooms.
