Gasgoo Munich-Questions have swirled around how Huawei’s Giant Whale Battery Platform managed to meet new national battery standards five years ahead of schedule. The company has officially responded, crediting the achievement to a dual safeguard: "forward-looking comprehensive safety design" and "rigorous manufacturing quality control."
The company explained that the platform employs a systematic safety layout across a three-level architecture — cells, battery packs, and the vehicle system — adhering to advanced design standards and multiple layers of safety redundancy.
Furthermore, the platform enforces rigorous quality control throughout the manufacturing process to ensure mass-produced units don't compromise on quality. Unlike industry peers that rely on finished supplier components, Huawei maintains deep control over the entire battery production chain. By utilizing 100% cell X-ray inspection combined with AI-driven intelligent quality checks, the system filters out even the slightest cell defects, nipping potential production risks in the bud. A large-scale standardized safety manufacturing system ensures consistent battery safety across every vehicle, bridging the gap between high research standards and reliable mass production.

HIMA outlined the Whale Battery Platform’s core capabilities across four dimensions:
First, it systematically addresses industry safety challenges. Targeting major fire triggers such as internal and external short circuits, overheating, underbody impacts, mechanical collisions, and water ingress, the Whale Platform builds a comprehensive safety system spanning from the cell to the vehicle level. By integrating the vehicle with cloud data, it enables pre-incident prevention and hazard mitigation during events.
Second, it employs ultra-high design standards and quality requirements to balance safety with performance, finding the optimal solution. This delivers a consumer experience defined by genuine safety, extended range, rapid charging, and long service life.
Third, it is backed by substantial technical support, including thermal safety design, insulation safety design, mechanical safety design, power safety design, and battery life extension technology.
Fourth, it puts in the work where consumers can’t see. The platform leverages over a decade of expertise in materials, packaging, miniaturization, and connectivity from the ICT, consumer device, and digital energy sectors, combined with a deep understanding of electrochemistry. This foundation is integrated with assisted driving, intelligent connectivity, and CPM cross-domain synergy to provide consumers with a systematic safety guarantee.
As of June 2026, Huawei’s Whale Battery Platform had delivered more than 1.43 million battery packs and over 160 million cells, all operating stably to date.
